TNT's 'The Librarians' Renewed for Second Season The Librarians Login to vote
The drama, spun off from the TV movie, will return for a second round of 10 episodes later this year.

The Turner-owned cable network has renewed the fantasy drama series for a second round of 10 episodes, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The drama, spun off from the cabler's record-breaking TV movie of the same name, debuted in December with an average 5.4 million viewers tuning in to the two-hour broadcast. That topped TNT's summer rookie The Last Ship's live-plus-same-day premiere of 5.3 million viewers — and giving The Librarians the crown as the most-watched cable debut of 2014. The series finished 2014 as cable's No. 2 new series — behind only Eric Dane-starrer The Last Ship. Factoring in multiple platforms and delayed viewing, Librarians reaches 11.4 million viewers a week. New episodes will return late this year.

Starring Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim and John Larroquette, Noah Wyle recurs as Flynn Carsen, reprising the role he played in TNT's movie trilogy. The series is produced by Electric Entertainment and hails from EPs Dean Devlin, John Rogers, Marc Roskin and Wyle.

The Librarians renewal comes at a time of change for TNT — and sibling TBS — under Kevin Reilly, president of TBS and TNT and chief creative officer for Turner Entertainment. Since the former Fox topper took over, TNT has canceled Franklin and Bash and Perception and renewed Legends and its highest-rated series, Rizzoli & Isles.

TNT's roster of originals also includes Falling Skies, renewed for a fifth and final season; as well as The Last Ship, Major Crimes, Murder in the First, Transporter: The Series as well as upcoming entries Public Morals, Proof and Agent X, as Reilly looks for edgier programming.
