HBO Reveals First Footage From 'Game Of Thrones' Season 6

Given the nail-biting, chest-stabbing final episode of Game of Thrones' Emmy winning fifth season, fans are understandably hungry to learn what's next for the future of Westeros and the lands beyond.

Viewers got exactly that thanks to a new promotional video released by HBO ahead of Sunday night's The Leftovers season finale, highlighting its new and returning original shows for the coming year. The nearly three-minute promo features the first brand new footage of Game of Thrones season six, albeit not the lengthiest look; but at this point, supporters of the Seven Kingdoms will take what we can get.

The video sees quick glimpses of four main characters: Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), last seen stranded somewhere in Essos, far away from her kingdom of Meereen, surrounded by a horde of battle-hungry Dothraki, her dragon Drogon nearby; Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), the dead-eyed skin-stripping psychopath running roughshod over Winterfell and the memory of House Stark; and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), her hair still closely cropped following her harrowing treatment at the hands of the High Sparrow, embracing her son Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman), her last living child and current ruler of King's Landing.

What can we learn from the first check-ins with Dany, Ramsay and the Lannisters since Thrones last aired? Not much, frankly. Dany still looks tatter and tired, far away from the comforts that come with being a queen. Ramsay, meanwhile, looks as prominent and poised as ever, shrouded in fur, trotting along on horseback, surrounded by bannermen, one of whom looks like Chris Pratt's Westerosi doppelgänger. As for Cersei? She's lucky to be alive, and likely just as grateful that her son still has his head, too.

No, it's not as provocative as Jon Snow's bloodstained face gracing the first official Game of Thrones season six art, or his half-brother Bran narrating the first official teaser trailer for the season, either. Nevertheless, it's a sign that the heroes and villains we love and loathe are still up to their old tricks, and that the winds of winter are just a few short months away from casting their ice-cold chill all over again.

Watch the Game of Thrones portion of the footage at around the two-minute mark on the video below.
