Melissa Joan Hart to Star in Family Docuseries

Melissa Joan Hart is plotting her next TV foray.

The Melissa & Joey star is developing Sweet Harts, a docuseries following her family's plans to open a dessert shop, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The series, which does not yet have a network attached, will focus on Hart and her family as they look to follow her dreams and open Sweet Harts, a dessert store in her hometown of Westport, Conn. Sweet Harts will focus on the family's bid to re-launch the business after a failed attempt with other partners in Sherman Oaks, Calif.

The series hails from Hart and Paula Hart's Hartbreak Films and 44 Blue Productions, the producers of A&E's similarly themed Wahlburgers. 44 Blue plans to shop the series to broadcast and cable networks.

"I couldn't be more excited about partnering with [44 Blue president] Stephanie [Drachkovitch] and the team at 44 Blue.  I knew they’d be the perfect fit to showcase our family’s dream of opening up ‘Sweet Harts’ – they have a great track record of building long-running, meaningful programs,” said Melissa Joan Hart, who will also serve as an executive producer on the series. “It's crucial to choose the right team when sharing your personal life on television – they’ll be experiencing all the ups and downs right along with us, as will the audience."

Should the series find a network, would join 44 Blue's roster of unscripted programming that also includes A&E’s Donnie Loves Jenny, Spike’s Deadliest Warrior and OWN’s Married to the Army: Alaska, among others.

Hart is repped by Gilbertson Entertainment.

Should the project move forward, it would mark Hart's return to TV following ABC Family's Melissa & Joey, which was canceled earlier this year following a four-season run.
